Theses to be tested on the streets

Abstract rights enforce concrete wrongs

Abstract “Justice” and “Freedom” = “Be poor” and “Shut-up”

This poem will soon be censored by the constitution

This is here because I wanted to write her a love letter

Criticism without action = castration

For a real exhibition of dispossession look in the mirror

The spectacle is pornography for eunuchs

The spectacle is the prison of desire

We will break out of your picture-frames

When you play with pictures of the poor they may play back

There’s nothing here for us that is not shaped without us

Those who oppose dispossession only in theory enforce it in practice

The official "truth" disguises the truth about "officials"

Solidarity begins at home

To abolish a world ruled by facades; one must first deface it

Anyone can strike against a dispossession that oppresses everyone

The truest exhibition of dispossession is a demonstration against it

Masturbate in favour of the National Democratic Revolution

The courts can only judge us because we do not judge the courts

I suspect God of being a liberal reformist

The return address of this message is: everywhere

Struggle is to life what love is to sex

Private misery is the only public indecency

What would happen if everybody did this?

Welcome to the Ministry of Refurbished Poverty, Archives Department.

Rather than wallowing in the ruins of the old world, let’ make new ones.

Behind every representation: a corpse.

Behind every cultural commodity: a cop.

Commodity-fetishism is everywhere waiting to be attacked: you too can make art.

Jacob Zille and Helen Zuma are two sides of the same forged coin

Behind the details of daily life, the shadow of history

Life begins where the spectacle of generalised abstraction ends

This city works for few:
To serve and protect images,
To beat and evict human beings.

Occupation
Made by women
Made landless by law
Fights sexism

Marikana, Tatane, Macia, Kennedy Road, Hangberg, Tafelsig, Symphony Way:
What more fitting memorial than that given by the blacks of LA to Rodney King?

Where slavery rules
All freedom begins
By breaking the rules

Peoples’ representatives housed in parliament.
Representations of people housed in galleries.
The world is moulded in their image.
Who destroys the homes of people?
Who enforces the poverty of people?
It must be the people themselves.

The role of representation
In the black arts of repression
Reveals the black repression
At the heart of representation.

Images are everywhere guarded
By the forces of law and order
To prevent those who suffer
Under their colonial occupation
From effecting an eviction
Against them and the obscene
Dispossession they represent

A world turned upside-down:
A heaven for commodities
Built on the backs of human beings
Condemned by law to live in hell.

Where the enshrined image
Everywhere serves to disguise

the facts of life, the truth
must take the form of desecration.

When our own image holds a hand to our mouths
And a gun to our heads
We must bite the hand that beats us
To speak and act for ourselves
